Shipping tiles to Nigeria

Tiles are among the heaviest building materials. A 20 ft container reaches its weight limit before it fills, so we load by cartons and weight.

Short answer

Updated: August 2026

How do I ship tiles from China to Nigeria?

Tiles go by sea in a full 20 ft container, door to door with clearance and duties included. The container is planned by weight, and tiles are packed on wooden pallets with corner protectors to prevent cracking.

  • A 20 ft container takes about 21 tonnes, and tiles usually hit the weight limit first, so you don't need a 40 ft container.
  • Write the size, water absorption and surface finish (polished, matt, rustic) into the product name.
  • Breakage depends mainly on palletising and bracing inside the container.

  • Door-to-door shipping to Nigeria

  • Nigeria import documents

Nigeria requires products on its mandatory lists to be certified before export, and the certificate must be presented at clearance. We check this before booking, so the risk does not surface when the cargo reaches port.

Common risks

Where this cargo most often gets held up. We check each point before it ships.

  1. Item 01

    Choosing a 40 ft container

A 40 ft container's weight limit isn't much higher than a 20 ft's. Tiles still hit the weight limit first, so you're paying extra for space.

  2. Item 02

    Gaps between pallets

If gaps between pallets aren't filled, the motion at sea makes the tiles knock into each other and crack.

  3. Item 03

    Loose cartons of tiles

Loose cartons of tiles get crushed during handling, and forklifts can't work them at the port. We recommend wooden pallets, shrink wrap and corner protectors.

  4. Item 04

    Empty space in the container

Heavy goods bunched on one side with empty space left over will shift and collide in rough seas. Spread the load evenly and fill the gaps when loading.

Shipping tiles to Nigeria: FAQ

How many square metres of tiles fit in a 20 ft container?

It depends on size and thickness, roughly worked out from the limit of about 21 tonnes. Send us the size, pieces per carton and weight per carton, and we calculate the load.

Do tiles to Nigeria need SONCAP?

Tiles fall under SONCAP, subject to the HS code. We check before booking and can handle it for you.

Can tiles and toilets go in the same container?

Yes, and it's common. Tiles go on the bottom and sanitary ware on top, so weight and volume balance each other. We give you a loading plan based on the number of pallets.

What happens if tiles arrive broken?

The all-in door-to-door price with clearance and duties already includes cargo transport insurance, covering the declared value. Take photos as evidence when you open the container, and we help you claim under the policy terms.

Not sure which documents you need? See the clearance document checklist or send us your product names.
