How do I ship steel profiles from China to Nigeria?
Steel profiles go by sea, door to door with clearance and duties included. 6 m lengths go in a 40 ft container; 12 m lengths in a 40 ft container or flat rack; large volumes can consider a breakbulk ship.

- Item 01
Long lengths shifting in the container
Profiles leave big gaps between them. Without wire or timber bracing they slide back and forth at sea and can smash the container doors.
- Item 02
Incomplete specification list
Writing only "profiles, X tonnes" can't be checked at inspection. List the specification, length and theoretical weight by bundle.
- Item 03
Quoting by volume
One cubic metre of steel can weigh more than 7 tonnes. Estimating by volume gets both the container type and the quote wrong. Give us the total weight when you ask for a quote.
- Item 04
Poor rust protection and strapping
Containers get damp at sea, and unprotected plates and coils will rust. Broken straps can injure people when the container is opened. Pack against damp and secure the load before shipping.

Shipping steel profiles to Nigeria: FAQ
Is there a clearance difference between H-beams and I-beams?
Both fall under 7216, but the subheadings are split by cross-section shape and height. Stating H-beam or I-beam and the specification avoids classification disputes.
Can profiles for a steel-structure building ship with the roofing sheets?
Yes. Steel-structure projects often ship profiles, roofing sheets and bolts together. We split the declaration by your list and plan the loading order.
Does steel to Nigeria need SONCAP?
Most steel products fall under SONCAP; whether yours does depends on the HS code. Send us the product names and specifications and we check and explain before booking. If it's needed, we can handle it for you.
