Short answer

Updated: August 2026

How do I ship building glass from China to Nigeria?

Building glass goes by sea in a full container, door to door with clearance and duties included. It stands upright on A-frames or in wooden crates and is secured; oversized panes go in an open-top container.

  • Pane size decides whether it fits through the container door; oversized panes go in an open-top container and are craned in.
  • Float, tempered, laminated and insulating glass have different HS codes.
  • Glass is heavy, and a 20 ft container usually reaches its weight limit first.

  • Door-to-door shipping to Nigeria

Shipping, customs, duties and delivery in Nigeria, in one price.

  • Nigeria import documents

Nigeria requires products on its mandatory lists to be certified before export, and the certificate must be presented at clearance. We check this before booking, so the risk does not surface when the cargo reaches port.

Common risks

Where this cargo most often gets held up. We check each point before it ships.

  1. Item 01

    Shipped flat

Flat glass laid flat and stacked breaks easily. It must stand upright, secured on glass racks.

  2. Item 02

    Inadequate unloading conditions

If there is no crane or forklift at the delivery address, crated glass can't be unloaded safely. Tell us the unloading conditions when you ask for a quote.

  3. Item 03

    Laid flat and stacked

Flat glass laid flat will crack as a whole stack in rough seas. It must stand upright on an A-frame or in a wooden crate and be secured.

  4. Item 04

    Glassware cartons without partitions

Glasses and bottles knocking into each other is the main cause of breakage. Inner packing needs partitions or individual wrapping.

Shipping building glass to Nigeria: FAQ

What if large panes won't fit through the container door?

Use an open-top container craned from above, or cut the glass to size and load a standard container. We give you a plan from your list.

Does tempered glass to Nigeria need SONCAP?

It depends on the HS code. We check before booking, and if it's needed we can handle it for you.

Can glass go in a shared container?

Yes, as long as the packing is strong enough not to be crushed by other goods. For large volumes of flat glass we recommend a full container.

Not sure which documents you need? See the clearance document checklist or send us your product names.
