Shipping pre-painted aluminium coils to Nigeria

Pre-painted aluminium coil is much lighter than steel, so containers fill by volume first. Loads are planned by coil diameter, width and count.

Short answer

Updated: August 2026

How do I ship pre-painted aluminium coils from China to Nigeria?

Pre-painted aluminium coil goes by sea in a full container, door to door with clearance and duties included. It is planned by volume and number of coils, with protective film and corner protectors on the coated surface.

  • Aluminium coil is low in density and lighter than the same number of steel coils, so the container type is usually set by volume.
  • Aluminium is classified under 7606, a different HS code from pre-painted steel coil; don't mix them.
  • Write the paint colour, thickness and alloy grade into the product name.

  • Door-to-door shipping to Nigeria

Shipping, customs, duties and delivery in Nigeria, in one price.

  • Nigeria import documents

Nigeria requires products on its mandatory lists to be certified before export, and the certificate must be presented at clearance. We check this before booking, so the risk does not surface when the cargo reaches port.

Common risks

Where this cargo most often gets held up. We check each point before it ships.

  1. Item 01

    Declared as steel coil

Aluminium and steel coil have different HS codes. Mixing them up causes misclassification and extra duty.

  2. Item 02

    Aluminium coils dented

Aluminium is fairly soft. Stacking coils on each other or over-tight straps leave dents, so secure them in layers on wooden pallets.

  3. Item 03

    Coils not secured

Coils that roll in rough seas damage the container walls and other cargo. They must be fixed in the container with steel cradles or wooden wedges.

  4. Item 04

    Packing not damp-proof

Once the coated edges get damp they blister and rust, and the goods can't be sold at full price on arrival. Use waterproof outer packing with moisture-proof paper inside.

Shipping pre-painted aluminium coils to Nigeria: FAQ

Can pre-painted aluminium coil and steel coil share a container?

Yes. Steel coil uses up the weight and aluminium coil uses up the volume, so together they often fill a container better. Just declare them under separate product names.

Does pre-painted aluminium coil to Nigeria need SONCAP?

It depends on the HS code. We check before booking whether it falls under SONCAP, and if it's needed we can handle it for you.

Can pre-painted aluminium coil share a container with other goods?

Yes. Aluminium coil is fairly light, so a single coil or a small quantity can go in a shared container, charged on volume or weight, whichever is greater. Steel coils are heavy individually, so we generally recommend a full container.
