Shipping glassware to Nigeria

Drinking glasses, glass bottles and glass tableware are light, bulky and fragile. They are charged by volume, and the inner packing decides the losses.

Short answer

Updated: August 2026

How do I ship glassware from China to Nigeria?

Glassware goes by sea in a shared or full container, door to door with clearance and duties included. Each piece gets dividers or foam, full cartons are palletised, and the charge is by volume.

  • Drinking glasses and glass tableware (7013) have a different HS code from glass bottles and jars (7010).
  • State the use for glassware that comes into contact with food.
  • Empty bottles take up a lot of space, so estimate freight by volume.

  • Door-to-door shipping to Nigeria

Shipping, customs, duties and delivery in Nigeria, in one price.

  • Nigeria import documents

Nigeria requires products on its mandatory lists to be certified before export, and the certificate must be presented at clearance. We check this before booking, so the risk does not surface when the cargo reaches port.

Common risks

Where this cargo most often gets held up. We check each point before it ships.

  1. Item 01

    Outer cartons not strong enough

Glassware cartons stacked too high get crushed. Use five-ply corrugated cartons and limit the stacking height.

  2. Item 02

    Mixed packing without dividers

Different sizes of glassware packed together without dividers break at a high rate from knocking.

  3. Item 03

    Laid flat and stacked

Flat glass laid flat will crack as a whole stack in rough seas. It must stand upright on an A-frame or in a wooden crate and be secured.

  4. Item 04

    Glassware cartons without partitions

Glasses and bottles knocking into each other is the main cause of breakage. Inner packing needs partitions or individual wrapping.

Shipping glassware to Nigeria: FAQ

What's the cheapest way to ship empty glass bottles?

Empty bottles are bulky. Large volumes go in a full 40HQ and small volumes in a shared container; the load is worked out from the bottle type and number per carton.

Can glassware share a container with ceramics?

Yes. Both are fragile; palletise them and ship in the same container under separate product names.

Can glass go in a shared container?

Yes, as long as the packing is strong enough not to be crushed by other goods. For large volumes of flat glass we recommend a full container.

What if the glass arrives broken?

Photograph the damage when you open the container. The all-in door-to-door price with clearance and duties already includes cargo transport insurance, covering the declared value, and we help you claim under the policy terms.

Not sure which documents you need? See the clearance document checklist or send us your product names.
