Short answer

Updated: August 2026

How do I ship rebar from China to Nigeria?

Rebar goes by sea, door to door with clearance and duties included. Small volumes go in a 40 ft container; large volumes are cheaper on a breakbulk ship. The product name states the diameter, grade and cut length.

  • Whether 12 m rebar fits in a 40 ft container depends on the actual length; over-length bar goes on a flat rack.
  • Ribbed and plain round rebar are declared separately.
  • Project shipments can load rebar together with tie wire and profiles.

Risk alert

Common risks

Where this cargo most often gets held up. We check each point before it ships.

  1. Item 01

    Bundles coming loose

Rebar bundles that come apart during handling cause injuries and damage. Check the number of straps on each bundle before shipping.

  2. Item 02

    Declaring theoretical weight

A big gap between declared weight and weighbridge weight triggers inspection. Declare the actual weighed weight.

  3. Item 03

    Quoting by volume

One cubic metre of steel can weigh more than 7 tonnes. Estimating by volume gets both the container type and the quote wrong. Give us the total weight when you ask for a quote.

  4. Item 04

    Poor rust protection and strapping

Containers get damp at sea, and unprotected plates and coils will rust. Broken straps can injure people when the container is opened. Pack against damp and secure the load before shipping.
