How long is sea freight from China to Egypt, and what should importers watch for?

From China to Egypt, FCL transit is usually 20 to 30 days: Sokhna on the Red Sea side is the shortest voyage, while Port Said and Alexandria through the Suez Canal take a little longer. Air freight to Cairo International Airport (CAI) takes 5 to 8 days. Sea imports into Egypt need Advance Cargo Information (ACI) first: the Egyptian importer requests an ACID number for each shipment on Nafeza, the exporter submits the commercial invoice and other documents through CargoX before shipment, and the ACID number must appear on the bill of lading and invoice. Air freight has been included since January 2026. Some consumer goods also need the factory to be registered with GOEIC first.

  1. Item 01

    ACI pre-registration and ACID number

    Sea imports into Egypt need Advance Cargo Information (ACI). The importer requests an ACID number on Nafeza, and the exporter registers a CargoX account and submits the commercial invoice and other documents before shipment. The ACID number must appear on the bill of lading and invoice; cargo without it cannot clear normally. Air freight has been included since January 2026.

  2. Item 02

    GOEIC factory registration

    Under Ministerial Decree No. 43 of 2016, the manufacturer or trademark owner of listed consumer goods, such as household appliances, furniture, textiles, toys and cosmetics, must first register with Egypt's General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) before the goods can be imported.

  3. Item 03

    Importer registration and inspection

    The importer must be listed in Egypt's importers register. GOEIC inspects imported industrial goods by sampling, and food is regulated separately by the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA).

FAQ: shipping from China to Egypt

Who applies for the Egyptian ACID number?

The Egyptian importer requests the ACID number on Nafeza. The exporter needs a CargoX account and, once the number is issued, submits the commercial invoice and other documents before shipment. Before booking we confirm the ACID number with you and check that it matches on the bill of lading and invoice, so the cargo is not held at the port for missing pre-registration.

Sokhna or Alexandria port?

Sokhna is on the Red Sea side, so ships from Asia skip the Suez Canal; the voyage is shorter and it is close to Cairo. Alexandria is Egypt's largest commercial port, with more services and sailings, and suits the Delta and the north. The right port depends on the delivery city, schedule and current rates, and we compare both in the quote.
