Import requirements in South Africa
Rules change. We check each product by name and HS code before shipping.
- Item 01
SARS importer registration
The importer must first register with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) as a customs importer and obtain a customs code before declaring imports.
- Item 02
NRCS compulsory specification approval
Electrical and electronic products, auto parts and other products under South Africa's compulsory specifications need a Letter of Authority (LOA) from the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) before import; otherwise they may be held or returned on arrival.
- Item 03
ITAC import permit
Used goods, waste and some controlled goods need an import permit from the International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) before import. Whether goods are controlled is confirmed by HS code.
