Short answer

Updated: August 2026

How do I ship solar mounting structures from China to Nigeria?

Solar mounting structures go by sea in a full container, door to door with clearance and duties included. Long rails decide the container size, connectors are boxed and palletised, and they can share a container with the panels.

  • Steel and aluminium structures have different HS codes and are declared by material.
  • Rails longer than 5.9 metres need a 40 ft container.
  • When the whole system ships together, the packing list shows panels, mounts and inverters separately.

Risk alert

Common risks

Where this cargo most often gets held up. We check each point before it ships.

  1. Item 01

    Loose connectors go missing

Bolts, clamps and other small parts packed loose often come up short when unpacked. Bag them by set before boxing.

  2. Item 02

    Galvanising worn off

Steel parts that aren't separated rub on the long voyage and wear off the galvanising, which weakens corrosion protection.

  3. Item 03

    Panels laid flat and stacked

Panels laid flat develop micro-cracks. You can't see them, but power output drops. They must stand upright on pallets.

  4. Item 04

Storage batteries declared as general cargo

Lithium batteries declared as general cargo and found at inspection are sent back and fined. Declare them truthfully as goods containing batteries.

Shipping solar mounting structures to Nigeria: FAQ

Can mounting structures share a container with solar panels?

Yes. Panels take up the space and mounts add the weight, so together they fill a container better.

How do ground-mount structures ship?

Ground-mount projects are large with lots of long pieces. We plan 40 ft or flat-rack containers from the list, and for large volumes can assess a breakbulk ship.

Do solar panels need SONCAP?

It is checked by HS code. We check before booking and can arrange it if needed.

Not sure which documents you need? See the clearance document checklist or send us your product names.
