Short answer

Updated: August 2026

How do I ship batteries from China to Nigeria?

Batteries go by sea in our battery container, door to door with clearance and duties included. Provide UN38.3, MSDS and a transport classification report for the battery type; packing and booking follow dangerous-goods rules.

  • Lithium, lead-acid and dry-cell batteries have different shipping conditions; state the type and capacity.
  • Batteries shipped on their own are declared differently from batteries inside equipment.
  • Book only once the documents are complete, so the container isn't cancelled after loading.

Common risks

Where this cargo most often gets held up. We check each point before it ships.

  1. Item 01

    Declared as general cargo

Declaring batteries as general cargo is misdeclaration; once found, the goods are sent back and fined. They must be declared truthfully.

  2. Item 02

    Expired or mismatched documents

If the model on the UN38.3 report differs from the model shipped, the booking is refused.

  3. Item 03

    Report doesn't match the goods

The model and capacity on the UN38.3 report must match the batteries actually shipped. Change the cells and they need testing again.

  4. Item 04

    Non-compliant packaging

Battery products need short-circuit protection packaging and the right labels on the carton. Non-compliant packaging is refused for loading.

Shipping batteries to Nigeria: FAQ

Can lithium batteries fly to Nigeria?

Lithium batteries shipped on their own face strict air restrictions, so we usually recommend our battery container by sea; we assess by battery type and documents.

How are lead-acid batteries shipped?

Lead-acid batteries are packed and declared under dangerous-goods rules and need an MSDS. We arrange a dangerous goods container based on the documents.

Can I ship without a UN38.3 report?

No. UN38.3 and MSDS are the basic documents for shipping lithium batteries. Have the batteries tested by a qualified lab first, then book once you have the report.

Not sure which documents you need? See the clearance document checklist or send us your product names.
