Short answer

Updated: August 2026

How do I ship solar panels from China to Nigeria?

Solar panels go by sea in a 40 ft high-cube full container, door to door with clearance and duties included. They stay upright on the factory pallets, braced between pallets, and are declared by panel count and power.

  • Panels have no battery and are declared as general cargo; if they share a container with storage batteries, the batteries are handled as goods containing batteries.
  • Describe them as monocrystalline or polycrystalline, with power and size.
  • Keep the factory pallets and corner protectors; we don't recommend re-packing them.

Risk alert

Common risks

Where this cargo most often gets held up. We check each point before it ships.

  1. Item 01

    Gaps left between pallets

If the gaps between pallets aren't filled, movement at sea causes micro-cracks and the power is lower on arrival.

  2. Item 02

    Pallets stacked

Stacking panel pallets higher than the factory allows can crack the glass on the bottom layer.

  3. Item 03

    Panels laid flat and stacked

Panels laid flat develop micro-cracks. You can't see them, but power output drops. They must stand upright on pallets.

  4. Item 04

Storage batteries declared as general cargo

Lithium batteries declared as general cargo and found at inspection are sent back and fined. Declare them truthfully as goods containing batteries.

Shipping solar panels to Nigeria: FAQ

How many solar panels fit in a 40 ft high-cube?

It depends on the panel size and panels per pallet. Common sizes are usually loaded to the factory's loading plan; send us the model and quantity and we'll check.

Do solar panels need SONCAP for Nigeria?

Solar modules are within SONCAP scope, subject to the HS code. We check before booking and can arrange it.

Can solar panels and lithium batteries share a container?

It depends on the batteries' dangerous-goods class and quantity. Send us the UN38.3 and MSDS and we'll tell you whether they can share a container and which channel to use.

Not sure which documents you need? See the clearance document checklist or send us your product names.
