Short answer

Updated: August 2026

How do I ship lighting from China to Nigeria?

Lighting goes by sea in a shared or full container, door to door with clearance and duties included. Containers are planned by volume, and crystal and glass shades are packed and reinforced separately.

  • Finished light fittings and LED light sources (bulbs, tubes) have different HS codes.
  • Fittings with glass or crystal are reinforced separately.
  • Lighting is mostly within SONCAP scope; we check before booking.

  • Door-to-door shipping to Nigeria

Shipping, customs, duties and delivery in Nigeria, in one price.

  • Nigeria import documents

Nigeria requires products on its mandatory lists to be certified before export, and the certificate must be presented at clearance. We check this before booking, so the risk does not surface when the cargo reaches port.

Common risks

Where this cargo most often gets held up. We check each point before it ships.

  1. Item 01

    Broken shades

Glass and acrylic shades that aren't packed individually break at a high rate when squeezed in the container.

  2. Item 02

    Estimated by piece count

Packed lighting takes up a lot of space; estimating by piece count underestimates the freight. Work out the volume from the carton size.

  3. Item 03

    Cartons too weak

Lighting usually comes in lightweight cartons, and the bottom layer collapses when stacked high. Use reinforced cartons or palletise.

  4. Item 04

    Described only as “lights”

Ceiling lights, street lights, string lights and bulbs are classified differently. Give the type and use.

Shipping lighting to Nigeria: FAQ

Are light fittings and decorative lights declared differently?

Both are lighting fittings, classified by type and material. Describe them as pendant, ceiling, wall or street lights.

Does lighting need SONCAP for Nigeria?

Lighting is within SONCAP scope, subject to the HS code. We check before booking and can arrange it.

Can light fittings go in a shared container?

Yes, lighting is common shared-container cargo. From 1 cubic metre, charged by volume or weight, whichever is greater.

Can solar street-light poles ship too?

Yes. Poles are long, so we confirm the length and choose the container; over 5.9 metres they go in a 40 ft container.
