Complete vehicles from China to Nigeria usually go to Lagos by RoRo or breakbulk vessel; small cars and parts can also go in containers. Vehicles may only be imported through seaports; land-border vehicle imports are not allowed. Nigeria has no single official age limit for imported vehicles, and vehicles around 20 years old are common on the market, but check duties and documents against current rules and the model before shipping.

Three ways to ship
| Method | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| RoRo | Cars, SUVs and trucks that can drive on board | Driven on and off, fast loading |
| Breakbulk | Construction machinery, heavy and oversized vehicles | Lifted on board; for units that cannot drive or are out of gauge |
| Container | Small cars, motorcycles, knocked-down kits and parts | Can share a container with other cargo; better protection |
What to confirm before clearance
- Vehicles may only be imported through seaports; importing vehicles through land borders is prohibited.
- Vehicle age: there is no single official limit, and vehicles around 20 years old are popular imports; follow the rules and Customs requirements in force when you ship.
- Duty depends on the tariff code, which varies by model, engine size and whether the vehicle is fully built or knocked down; send the model and specification list before quoting.
- Form M must be in place before shipment, with descriptions and quantities matching the invoice and bill of lading.
Send photos, the chassis number and the specification sheet to your clearing agent before shipping, to avoid holds at the port for a mismatched description or value.
