A low quote that ends up costing more usually covers only part of the journey: origin port charges, bunker surcharge, peak season surcharge, destination terminal handling, clearing agent fees, inspection fees, storage and delivery were left out. When asking for a price, request a "total to door" quote with every item listed.

Ask these questions when getting a quote
- Is this price to port or to door? Are destination port charges included?
- Are import duties and VAT included? What value will be declared?
- In which cases would extra charges arise? Will you tell me in advance?
- How long is the quote valid? Does it change in peak season?
- In which currency are charges settled? Can local charges at the destination be paid in local currency?
Put several quotes side by side and compare the "total to door". Comparing unit rates alone easily leads you to the option that turns out most expensive.
