Short answer

Updated: August 2026

How do I ship soap from China to Nigeria?

Soap goes by sea in a full container, door to door with clearance and duties included. Prepare documents to NAFDAC requirements, declare by product type and size, and plan the container by weight.

Toilet soap, laundry soap and detergents have different HS codes.
Pack liquid detergents leak-proof.
Soap is heavy; a 20 ft container often reaches its weight limit first.

Nigeria import documents
Nigeria requires products on its mandatory lists to be certified before export, and the certificate must be presented at clearance. We check this before booking, so the risk does not surface when the cargo reaches port.

Risk alert

Common risks

Where this cargo most often gets held up. We check each point before it ships.

Item 01
Softening in the heat
Heat in the container softens soap and makes it stick together. Allow for temperature in packing and stacking.
Item 02
Incomplete documents
Soap and detergents fall under NAFDAC; without the documents they can’t be released.
Item 03
No registration
Cosmetics without NAFDAC registration cannot be cleared legally.
Item 04
Labels don’t match the registration
Product labels must match the registration details. Check before shipping.
