Shipping fabrics to Nigeria

Fabric ships in rolls and is both heavy and bulky. Composition and weave decide the classification; damp protection decides the condition on arrival.

Short answer

Updated: August 2026

What should I watch out for when shipping fabrics from China to Nigeria?

Pack whole rolls against damp, plan the container by weight and volume, and declare fibre content, weave and fabric weight (g/m²).

  • A fabric’s HS classification depends on its fibre content ratio and weave (woven or knitted), so the composition sheet must be accurate.
  • Wrap whole rolls in plastic film and a woven sack against damp and dirt.
  • Fabric is heavy, so a 20 ft container may reach its weight limit first. Calculate by number of rolls and roll weight.
  • Goods from several fabric traders can be consolidated at our Guangzhou warehouse.

Common risks

Where this cargo most often gets held up. We check each point before it ships.

  1. Item 01

    Wrong composition

A few percentage points’ difference in composition can change the HS code, and the duty rate with it. Go by the test report or the mill’s composition sheet.

  2. Item 02

    Damp packing

Damp fabric goes mouldy and fades, and the whole roll is written off. Use a woven sack outside and plastic film inside.

  3. Item 03

    Product name just says “fabric”

State the composition, weave and end use of the fabric so it matches the right HS code.

Shipping fabrics and textiles to Nigeria: FAQ

Can fabric go in a shared container?

Yes, from 1 cubic metre, charged on volume or weight, whichever is greater.

How do I declare many colours and many batches?

Fabrics with the same composition and weave can be declared together; colour and print don’t affect classification. List rolls and metres on the packing list.
